This book is in the classical vein of a Festschrift – a volume dedicated to the achievements of Yitzhak Mavashev-scholar, linguist, writer, editor and translator from Russian into the Tadjik language. Contemporary writers, editors and translators pay homage to his enourmous contribution to the development of Tadjik languages that was pioneered by Mavashev.

Yitzhak Mavashev was born in a traditional Jewish family and was tutored by a teacher invited from Jerusalem. Being exposed to variety of languages from his early age, Mavashev has acquired a keen ear for the nuances languages and music. He has translated the first Tadjik textbooks in physics, chemistry, biology…and even the multi volume edition of the Collected Works of Lenin.
