Snow Goose Chronicles, set in 1929 in Ukraine, is based on the true story of the arrest, deportation, and incarceration of the author’s grandmother in the island fortress of Solovki.

Her miraculous escape and ensuing adventures, including a mismatched love affair with the enemy, unfold against the background of the violent social upheaval that characterized the Soviet Union of the thirties.
